If they've really solved the energy problem for an Alcubierre drive, and can prove the theory by generating an actual warp field, pretty much everything left is engineering.
Any article about warp bubbles and compressing spacetime that does NOT at least give a passing mention to Star Trek and its "subspace" is missing the point, rather badly. :)
