Thoughtgun Blast, Part the 4th

National Politics:
Now Bayh has seen some writing on some wall. Whether it says "go fishing" or "primary against a stricken Obama" remains to be seen. I wish the Dems a large panoply of choices and many many expensive races to follow during their presidential primary.

Our Dear Leader:
Still disgusts me. What more to say? He lived and campaigned on his contempt for America, love of large and intrusive government, and lack of any experience; now he's living his image to the hilt.

Climate:
More scandals and lies surface every week. I feel a little like Churchill must've felt when Hitler finally showed his hand to the world. "See? I told you so."

Boomsticks:
On my short list for consideration this year are:

1) More range time.

2) A wood-furniture CETME.

3) A CMP Garand.

4) More range time.

5) A 1911 clone of some kind.

Thoughtgun Blast, Part the Third

Terrorism, Profiling the Obvious Perpetrators Thereof:

This whole "don't bother looking at Muslim men because if we do they'll just start using Big Squareheaded Swedes" has got to be the dumbest argument I've ever heard for or against anything in my life.

The dumbest.

It's like a cop getting a report that a bank in his area was just robbed by a guy with a big Santa Claus beard, then walking by a guy on his beat with a big Santa Claus beard but not bothering to stop and question him because "he can just shave it off later on today".

Dumb. Simply dumb.

It's war, morons. Make the enemy react to YOU.

The Health Care Bill:

Hard to say anything that hasn't already been said. It's disgusting, it's dangerous, it's crooked, it's unaffordable, it's embarrassing for the lickspittles who got their public handjobs, it's empowering for the State, it's 100% part of the opposite strategy to Reagan's "Starve the Beast" (see also the "stimulus" bills and "cap & trade"), it's likely to destroy the Democratic Party for a decade to come and this administration for the remainder of its reign, and I think it's going to pass and then be struck as unConstitutional in the next couple of years. Where's the authority or precedent for the FedGov requiring me to buy a product or service?

So I'm angry, but not panicked. Maybe I should be both, but I'm not. But I'm pretty darned angry so maybe that makes up for the not-panicky part.

Politics, Campaigns:

Like I said above, an ill wind is blowing from D.C. that is going to sweep a lot of its soldiery into the discard bin, including our Prime Leader, President Obama. No way he gets a second term the way he pisses on the country and its people every day. People expect insulting ugly scolding from Don Rickles, and pay for it, but a President can't show contempt for his audience that way.

Plus I honestly think the same thing I thought during his campaign - he's way over his head, and really pissed off that this job he wanted is harder than he thought. And I don't think he wants to be the leader of a bunch of people that don't realize how awesomely great he is.

If 2010 is as great a year electorally as it is shaping up to be right now for the Republican party, look for one mighty petulant president taking his ball and going home in 2011 and -12.

Climategate:

I've been explaining why anthro global warming is bunk for almost 20 years to friends and unfortunate readers of various internet forums I've been on. Quite honestly now that the cat is out of the bag I feel a little enervated by it all. Plus Borepatch is doing such an awesome and methodical job of it there's not much I can contribute. I guess I'm left with more of the same I've said for years: AGW is a poor theory that was shot down in the minds of anyone who understood the scientific method decades ago.

Of course, now that it's part of the Holy Religion of the Environment, reality might not have much of a chance against it even now.

Thoughtgun Blast, Part the Second

Life

Never attribute malice where simple ignorance will suffice.

Health Care

Just because there is a procedure for removing brain tumors and a person who can do it doesn't mean that I should have automatic access to them, anymore than the fact that BMWs exist means that I should have one in my garage.

And if something is believed to be too expensive, address the costs and try to make it cheaper via the market, don't try and force everyone to buy the expensive product.

Enemies

Perfect:Good as Water:Fire

History

This weekend (10/25) was the 65th anniversary of Task Force Taffy 3's epic David vs. Goliath battle vs. a Japanese battleship fleet at the Phillipines. Go Samuel B Roberts, go!

Thoughtgun Blast

Congresscritter Alan Grayson (D):

I just want to make sure I get this straight. Eight years of listening to Democrat congresscritters compare our troops to the Khmer Rouge, Democrat congresscritters opining that President Bush enjoyed sending young men to die for his own amusement and nothing more, Democrat congresscritters doing whatever they could to sabotage the success of the Iraq War and American foreign policy in the Middle East, and even a hint of wondering whether some of these arseclowns might not have America's best interests at heart was met with cries of "Don't you dare question their patriotism!"

But this Grayson creature redoubles on his "[Republicans want you to] die quickly!" comment with a little improv about Republicans being “foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.”

And when folks react with a "hey wait a minute with the divisive rhetoric" we get told to put on our big boy pants and stop whining? Example.

Hello? McFly?

Polanski

Wow, my opinion about a, what, 40 year-old criminal case? Bated breath, I can sense it.

Look, I don't know jack about Polanski, his movies, or any details. I just recently saw Chinatown for the first time and yeah, I liked it mostly.

Whatever. He drugged and buggered a little girl without her permission. He plead GUILTY. Before sentencing could be carried out he FLED JUSTICE. That means he's a rapist and a child molester.

I looked it up.

He could get beaten to death with red hot shovels and I'd be more worried about metal fatigue than his sorry life. Wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire, blah blah blah.

But of course I've read, over the last couple of days, the hollywood "elite" bleating in his defense. After all, what's a little child-rape between friends? And of course I'm suitably outraged, "harrumph harrumph - harrumph harrumph."

But I'm driving home tonight listening to Air America - Nicole Sandler I think the hostesses name is - and she's got some wanker on with her and the topic comes up and I think they're actually going to not be lefty douche bottles about it. The dude seems like he's a little creeped out by the whole thing. But actually he just thinks that since Polanski plead guilty he should just serve his couple of months and put it behind him. Who knows what "horrible demons" good ol' RP was suffering from when he forced himself into a drugged little girl, he says. Then the Sandler chick says something similar - just get it over with. And then they made a joke about quaaludes and not being able to help themselves or something. I can only assume that quaaludes were what RP gave to the 13 year old girl that he raped.

Pretty funny, huh? Rape jokes. Child rape jokes. On national radio.

Oh, the fun.

But the thing that struck me was, not once in that 5 or 10 minute segment did either one of them mention the girl. The victim. The child. It was like they were talking about a sack of parking violations in a state that you went to college in that you have to get cleared up when you want to get a job there later. I found it...

abhorrent.

Sarah Palin:

Wow, they still hate her. I kinda sorta still don't get why. I mean, yeah, I get the "she's a purple monkey in the brown monkey cage so she must be ripped apart" thing, but man, such blind and palpable hatred. It's quite unattractive.
