Atom Smasher 1: Whiners 0

All of you hoping that technology will continue to be the savior of the human race -- Behold. I give you the artificial leaf. 

If you've finished marvelling, I remember something my esteemed co-blogger once said when irked by some whining about the depletion of the Amazon rainforest. "Fuck it. If we wanted to, we could just build another one." 

I know this artificial leaf doesn't create oxygen, but I suspect that's just a matter of time.

And while I'm sorry to hear that so many people have died protesting the regime in Libya, I'm encouraged by the thought that Col. Khadaffi may have a date with the tallest lamp-post in Tripoli in short order.

About Damned Time

Three pirates dead, one in custody, and Capt. Phillips safe. The only way it could have been more perfect is if all four pirates had been snuffed.

The most telling part for me:

"Initial reports indicate Phillips jumped overboard for a second time and the military was able to take advantage of the situation."

Without any background it seems likely that snipers were waiting for an opportunity and took it when created by the Captain himself. A little lesson in courage, smarts, self-reliance, and trust in the professionals for all of us.
