New Woodsman Pix ( If Anyone's Interested)

I just looked at mine -- it has the woodgrain box and original target, but I would be amazed if it had been fired much. The serial number is about 60,000 more than yours, and it is on the side.
If you want to shoot mine, I would be happy to bring it to the next blog shoot. You might want to get the folks at Amoskeag Auction in Manchester NH to give you an informal or formal appraisal. Maybe a factory letter from Colt would be a good idea.
Anyway, yours is a nice find!

I'd love to have a look at your Woodsman at an upcoming Bloggershoot. Thanks! I hear the trigger is a very nice one.

I may run over to Amoskeag, at that. There are some folks interested, and a guy at work knows someone with the largest Colt collection in NH....

You know who designed that gun?

That's right.

I have one, made in 1934. It was carried as a sidearm by my grandfather when he hunted. It was shot. It has a fair amount of honest wear. I replaced all the springs and thoroughly disassembled and cleaned it when it came to me.

I still shoot it and it will be featured at a mini-blogger shoot in a couple of weeks.

Well, a little bit of research on the serial numbers, and I was way off. It looks like yours was made in 1941. Perhaps someone bought it, and went to war and never came back? Mine was a whole different range - it looks like mine was made in 1965.

My trigger finger is itching just looking at that thing. I'll have to drag out the wife's second series Woodsman Match Target to calm it down.
