Things I Have Explained Badly to My 6-Year Old

1) Terrorism.

2) Fundamentalist Islamic dress codes for women in Iraq and the consequences for violating them.

3) The difference between wholesale and retail.  (Sub-discussion on the nature of UPS' business model - do services fit neatly into the wholesale/retail division mentioned earlier)

4) Depleted uranium

5) 9/11

Maybe I should stop listening to the news when he's riding in the car...

Depleted uranium is an "old man" of metals. It isn't as strong as it once was, in fact it virtually harmless. But it is heavier than the young metals around it. And, oh the stories it could tell...

Don't feel bad; most politicians don't understand those things either. Your son probably knows about as much as they do at this point.

I remember taking #1 Son to the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey when we lived in England. I explained to him that the king got mad and had the monasteries destroyed, which was why they were in ruins. He listened, and then asked (in his 4 year old voice), "Why was the king so mad at the Monkeys?"

I was tempted to say that it was because of their second album, but that just would have been pouring gasoline on the fire ...
