But thanks for the advice - that's a good incentive to not go nuts in iTunes.Atom Smasherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01717946941636575857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817503750343460336.post-43957217306057226702010-10-24T11:50:43.497-05:002010-10-24T11:50:43.497-05:00Just a tip - when you buy a song, if it's DRM&...Just a tip - when you buy a song, if it's DRM'd to work only on an iPod or in iTunes, you should burn it to a CD and rip it to an mp3 file that will play on any device. That way, if in a few years you see a non-Apple product that you like better you don't have to worry about having 100+ songs that won't play on it because they're locked into Apple's DRM.

I wish I had done that when I got mine several years ago. Right now, if I decided I liked a Zune or something more than an iPod, or if I wanted a less expensive player, I'd either have to spend probably close to $200 extra just to replace all my DRM restricted music, or spend several days burning and ripping CD's to get those songs to play on anything but Apple devices. I'm effectively locked in to iPods now.

It's much better to do it as you buy the songs than to let several years of it build up.Jake (formerly Riposte3)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02976718318892210404noreply@blogger.com
